We create a positive reading and writing culture in our school. To inspire children to be effective communicators in all areas of the curriculum. As a school, we promote a growth mindset and strive to enable all children to be fluent readers and confident writers that take responsibility and pride for their own learning and progress through the curriculum.

We champion a love of reading throughout our whole curriculum. We believe reading will give our pupils the chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Reading also enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know as well as taking them to places they can only dream of!

By exposing children to a range of high quality texts, we aim to increase and improve their vocabulary beyond that which they hear or use in everyday speech.

Our reading structure ensures children take part in daily independent reading, have focussed whole class reading sessions led by the teacher, are given the responsibility and enjoyment of choosing their own books while also taking part in 'Non-fiction Friday'. They also access books electronically via myOn. The breadth of our structure ensures that children are exposed to a wide variety of texts and authors through various mediums.

We believe in making readers of the future and do all that we can to inspire our children to fall in love with reading.
