As I am sure you all know today is my last day as head teacher as well as the last day of term. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been responsible for the school for the past 12 years and to have worked with so many wonderful children, staff, parents and governors.
I would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the years and in particular, the kind words and gifts I have received in my last few weeks. I have been overwhelmed by the pupils and parents generosity.
My leaving assembly yesterday was a delight thanks to the work put in by the pupils and staff to give me a great send off. I have some lovely letters, pictures, cards and books to take home with me that will remind me of so many fond memories of the school.
At the end of this term, we shall be saying goodbye to several members of staff.
Mr Hatton will be moving on to teach at Edward Francis having completed his contract with Prince Avenue covering Mrs Reynolds’ maternity leave. I would like to thank him for his contribution to the school this year.
Miss Greenwood is also leaving at the end of term to spend more time with her children. She has been at the school since 2004. Many of our pupils have started their time at Prince Avenue in her class and received a wonderful introduction to school through her kind and professional care. Miss Ray will be taking maternity leave from September. She will certainly be missed during her absence. We congratulate her on becoming a mother very soon.
Miss Ilett is leaving after 6 years of service to take up a new career as a Child Minder. She started as a parent helper and ended up as one of our most valued Teaching Assistants. Mrs Witherall has worked as a teaching assistant and cover supervisor for 7 years. She is leaving to complete her teacher training. We wish her every success with her studies; I am sure she will make a great teacher.
Mrs Kimberley our Network Manager, started work at Prince Avenue in April 1997 and has looked after the IT for us for 22 years now. Over the years, she has overseen the development of the IT suite and our website and worked hard to keep the digital technology of the school functioning efficiently. With the rapid pace of change, this is never an easy job and she has managed this admirably and with great skill.
All these members of staff have given the school excellent service and I am sure that parents would wish to join me in giving them our wholehearted thanks for their contribution to the school over many years.
Of course, it was not just staff who leave today. We say goodbye to our Year 6 children. These pupils have been a wonderful group of children to work with. They have shown all the qualities of being curious, not giving up, co-operation, having a go and using their imagination. They have enjoyed learning and have always tried hard to improve. They are the best example of our School’s Learning Powers I can think of. Well done for working so hard and being a true credit to our school. I wish you every success and the best of luck in your new schools.
I am leaving the school in the excellent and capable hands of Mr Clement. He will provide both continuity and a fresh and exciting future for the school. I am sure the school will go from strength to strength under his leadership and I wish him and the school every success.
The future is bright for Prince Avenue!
With fond regards
Mr Will Hill
