Year 2 visit to the Toby Carvery

Classes 5 & 6 visited the local carvery this week where they learned about food sourcing and how it’s grown. They completed their visit with a free roast dinner. The Toby Carvery has offered the same experience for all of our pupils and we are hoping to devise a timetable over the coming months so that everyone has an opportunity of a free lunch.

School Clubs & Activities

Please check the finish times of your children’s clubs to ensure the children are collected on time – thank you.

Parenting Group

This term, we will be starting a group for parents in school. To find out more, you are invited to a “Kids Matter” taster session on Wednesday 20th September from 2 – 3 p.m. in the school dining hall. The session will be facilitated by Sam Vincett from Southend Vineyard and Mrs Cooper from our school. If you would like to attend, please leave your name at the school office so we can gauge the number of people who will be attending; you will need to sign in at the office on the day.

Jeans for Genes Charity Day – Friday 22nd September

Don’t forget to wear your jeans for charity on Friday next week. This is a full non-uniform day. We will be selling cup-cakes at break time and they will cost 40p. Because of the cake sale, our usual KS2 tuck shop bacon rolls will be available on Thursday of next week.

Flu Vaccinations

Your child should have brought home information about this year’s flu vaccination programme. The immunisation team will be administering the vaccinations in school on Monday 9th October. All children across Essex in school years R to 6 are offered the vaccination free of charge.

You should complete and return the consent form to school by next Friday 22nd September if you would like your child to have the vaccination; the forms will be collected by the immunisation team who will then order the required number of vaccines for our school.

Nut-Free School

Please note; we are a nut-free school. We have several pupils who have severe nut allergies and for this reason, we request that pupils and staff do not bring food into school that contains nuts/may contain nuts. Your support with this would be very much appreciated – thank you.

PE Kit & Jewellery

All pupils should have a PE kit in school at all times please. As the colder weather approaches, it might be wise to include some joggers and a sweatshirt; they do not have to be fashion items, they will be probably get muddy!  Earrings should be removed on PE day before the children come to school. If for some reason your child’s earrings cannot be removed, you should cover them with tape before they come to school or, you should provide a roll of tape for your child to keep in their drawer in class.

Additional Diary Dates

I have two new dates to add to the events calendar:

  • Thursday 14th December – PTA Children’s Disco after school
  • Friday 15th December – School Christmas Dinner – this will need to be booked in advance

(more details will be sent home nearer the time)

Park Re-Vamp

One of our parents has informed us on good authority that the park area in Sidmouth Avenue is to undergo a complete re-vamp. It is believed to have a completion date of May 2018 and will provide state of the art outdoor play equipment for children aged 0 – 10 years.

Attendance Cup

This week, the cup was shared between classes 1, 2, 4, 6 and 10; they all achieved 100% in the first week of term – what a fabulous start. Let’s keep it up!

Next Week’s Menu

Week 3

The Ice Lollies will be on Thursday and the Angel Delight will be on Monday; this is because of supplier delivery delays.

Please pay for dinners either in advance or on the day. Money should be sent to school in a named envelope.
